Why visit Lun - Tovarnele?

On the most northern tip of the island of Pag, about 20 km from Novalja, nestled in a healthy silence broken only by the song of the crickets and the sound of the waves, is Lun.
The village itself is not next to the sea, rather to get to the sea and the small port you have to go down to the village of Tovarnele, 1 km away. Along Tovarnele there are the beautiful beaches and promenade with views of the neighbouring small island of Dolfin and the islands of Cres and Lošinj. On Dolfin there is a lighthouse and the name of the island is due to the dolphins that often visit this part of Pag`s waters.
What makes Lun a unique place on the island of Pag, but also in the world, are its olive groves. Among 80,000 olive trees in Lun, of particular significance are 1,500 wild olive (Olea Oleaster Lat.), with a height of 5-8 m and a diameter of 20-80 cm. Experts have estimated the age of some trees more than 1500 years! This area of 24 hectares of wild olives is one of its kind in the Adriatic and one of the three of its kind in the world and therefore has a great botanical value. Because of its characteristics, it was placed under protection in 1963 and declared a botanical park. You can take a walk along a 2 km walkway and enjoy in the unique sight of ancient trees dating back to almost biblical times, whose roots intertwine with the rocks of Pag.
Be sure to visit the so-called "stanovi" of Novalja - old shepherd homes, where you will still find families that deal with the production of the famous Pag cheese.
